The lid itself is a flip lid hinged along the long edge, closing down over the base so that its front edge overlaps the wall below, and held shut by magnets — it opens with a lift rather than a pull and shuts with the same gesture, which is the point for a gift box, since a gift box is opened and closed far more than once.
