A single row decides the box's proportion before anything else does. One row of clusters is a long thin thing, so the pack is long and thin too, and at arm's length on a counter it already reads as a lash case rather than as a carton of something else. The drawer opens along that same long axis, which means the row is not tipped out or lifted off — it slides into view lengthwise, in order, the way a rule is read. The ribbon loop at the end is what starts it: a flat tab with a folded seam, wide enough to take a thumb, and it lies down against the tray rather than sticking out.

The tray inside is paper, not foam. It lifts the row so the fans stand instead of lying flat, and because it is a printed component it carries a second surface for free — a colour block, an index mark, a style name, or nothing but the same white as the sleeve.
